The consistent rise in healthcare costs is a major concern for all of us and requires careful management. However, it must not be the only consideration. Careful management must include appropriate management.

The field of hand surgery deals with both surgical and nonsurgical treatment of conditions and problems that may take place in the hand or upper extremity.

Plastic surgery really emerged during World War I with the onset of trench warfare. As a result, plastic surgeons receive significant training in hand surgery during their residency. The field of hand surgery makes up 25% of the board certification exam for plastic surgery.

Plastic surgeons are trained to reconstruct all aspects in an effort to salvage the appendage: blood vessels, nerves, tendons, muscle and bone.

[But what makes them so complex?]

In July of 2005, The Centre, P.C. implemented what is now becoming one of the most popular and successful rehabilitative physical treatment modalities: the MedX Phototherapy. Phototherapy is the application of red and near infrared light over injuries or wounds to improve soft tissue healing and relieve acute and chronic pain. It uses superluminous diodes (SLD) for broader application and low level laser light (LLLT) for deeper, more specific stimulation of target tissue.
